So, I got a question. Here's the rendering for the 2016 Lincoln MKS

Kinja'd!!!

Now personally, I'm liking what I'm seeing, it's a very nice clean design and a much needed update from the previous gen. If the final version turns out similar to this, I'll be happy. I also think that if Lincoln markets this right and options it right and whatnot, this could easily be the brand's new flagship model. Maybe not the RWD V8 Mustang based sedan everyone keeps banging on and on about, but a great powerful sedan with a lot of presence and the distinct Lincoln feel. Who knows? Maybe they'll call it the Continental this time.

But that's just me, what about you guys? What are your thoughts just from the picture?

Looks like an Impala.

Is that really a bad thing?

I would rather see a Continental with RWD and a V8. Just me though

7/10.

Would hoon.

Especially if it has the SHO drivetrain. 350+ HP and AWD in a DD? Yes, please.

They way things are going with Ford focusing on the EcoBoost, I'm not sure the V8 might happen. As for RWD, it would be nice, but I'm okay if it's FWD.

I really, really like that. I hope that's what it looks like. Not just a huge improvement over the current design (which really isn't saying much), but a good looking car in its own right. Love the RWD proportions (even though it will be on a stretched Fusion platform). I am no fan of the split winged grille, but I do think it works much better on a more squared off, upright design like that one. I would buy an MKS that looks like that.

That being said, that is not (nor will anything on the Fusion platform ever be) a substitute for a proper long wheelbase V8 RWD flagship luxury sedan. With Ford's announcement of a new platform for Lincoln that can be configured for RWD, I do hope that Lincoln has plans for such a car, preferably with styling reminiscent of the '60s Continental and complete with suicide doors and a sumptuous interior. That's the one they should call Continental , and I think it would put Lincoln back on the map of luxury car buyers.

I am hoping for Lincoln to bring back the continental name proper, the only question is the platform. I'm not saying this would be the most proper substitute for the true Continental, but it can be a start. I hope that the new platform looks promising and can finally give Lincoln a grand platform but as it stands, the MKS can be a nice substitute if we have to wait. Although if I were you, I would probably give up on the V8, the fact that Ford is putting the Ecoboost V6 in everything probably means a V8 won't be coming back, If Ford is going so far as to put it in the Mustang, the GT, AND the Raptor pickup truck, I have a safe bet that if the Continental platform does come to life, that engine will get shoved into it as well.

Continental isn't happening. No other luxury brand below Rolls-Royce/Bentley still uses real names, and Ford aren't going to be the first ones to be different. RWD would also be very tough, Lincoln's volume is so puny compared to Cadillac, there would be no way to spread the costs of a unique platform out. But, Audi has proven that AWD is perfectly acceptable for many luxury buyers as long as the rest of the product is up to standard.

On the plus side, not selling the next Taurus in North America is going to give Lincoln a much more unique product.
